Apex 396
  1. Are the amino acid and reagent solutions stable on the Apex 396?

  2. Can I make just a few peptides on the Apex 396 or do I have to make 96 peptides at a time?

  3. How can I make larger amounts of peptide on the Apex 396?

  4. How often do I have to change the filters in the reactor assembly?

  5. My instrument is giving an error code that indicates a solvent detection problem.  What do I need to do?

  6. Can I change the temperature of the reactor assembly?

  1. Are the amino acid and reagent solutions stable on the Apex 396?

The amino acid and reagent solutions are stable without degradation or racemization during the length of most synthesis proceedures on the Apex 396.  We recommend that amino acid solutions and coupling reagent solutions should be freshly prepared at the start of each library synthesis.

  2. Can I make just a few peptides on the Apex 396 or do I have to make 96 peptides at a time?

You can use as many or as few reactor wells in Apex 396 as you need.  You do not have to utilize all 96 reactor wells.  The Apex 396 reactor assembly is divided into 4 zones.  We recommend that nitrogen pressure should be switched off in unused zones to improve performance.

  3. How can I make larger amounts of peptide on the Apex 396?

You can use one of the optional reactor assemblies that have larger reactor wells.  Reactor assemblies with 40 five mL wells, 16 ten mL wells, or 8 twenty mL wells are available for preparing peptides on larger scale.  Alternatively, you can synthesize the same peptide in more than one reactor well.  The Apex 396 produces highly uniform peptides across many wells.

  4. How often do I have to change the filters in the reactor assembly?

You only need to change the filters if you are having trouble emptying the reactor wells.  Using high quality resins without "fines" will increase the usable lifespan of the filters.

  5. My instrument is giving an error code that indicates a solvent detection problem.  What do I need to do?

You may have to replace the isolation isolation block on the affected arm.

  6. Can I change the temperature of the reactor assembly?

No, the Apex 396 does not have heating or cooling capabilities.
